Warby Parker to continue e-commerce-to-retail expansion into East Liberty

Another clicks-to-bricks retailer is ready to set up shop in East Liberty.

Warby Parker, a designer eyewear venture started online in 2010, has inked a deal to open a store at 6016 Penn Avenue, the retail space within The Penn at Walnut on Highland.

East Liberty landmark to undergo renovation

East Liberty Presbyterian Church, an historic landmark and a defining presence along its community’s Penn Avenue business district, is preparing to undergo a renovation.

The church will present a briefing of its plans before the Pittsburgh Planning Commission early afternoon on Tuesday.

Rob Pfaffmann, principal of Pfaffmann + Associates, the design firm for the project, said the opportunity to pursue the renovations plan came about after East End Cooperative Ministries moved some of its program operations out of the church into its own new building a few blocks away.

Duolingo moving to East Liberty, plans to add employees

The language education company has outgrown its Shadyside offices and confirmed it is moving into a new space at 5900 Penn Ave. in East Liberty. The 15,000-square-foot space will provide more room for Duolingo's growing staff: the company expects to grow from 60 to 100 employees in 2016. AlphaLab moving to East Liberty

Date: January 20, 2015

AlphaLab is leaving its space in the South Side and will take up residence in East Liberty this spring.  The Pittsburgh-based accelerator program, which has been located on East Carson Street since its launch in 2008, will be taking about 5,000 square feet on Broad Street between Kirkwood and Centre Avenue, in the same building as the AlphaLab Gear hardware accelerator.

Gov. Corbett directed another $5 million to the East Liberty Transit Center project

East Liberty Transit CenterThe $5 million joins $20 million in federal grant funding already awarded the project in 2012.


Under development by the Mosites Co. working in partnership with the Port Authority of Allegheny County, the project will bring a mixed-use plan of 357 residential units along with a 554-space garage to build upon it's established use as a transit station to a six-acre site at a key location along the Martin Luther King Jr. East Busway. >>read more>>

 

TCB breaks ground on East Liberty Place South

The second empty plot of the former East Mall high-rise in East Liberty is ready for a new apartment building.


The Community Builders Inc., the nonprofit development firm that is the developer of the project and others in the neighborhood, broke ground Monday on East Liberty Place South, a 52-unit apartment building that includes first-floor retail space of 11,000 to 25,000 square feet. The project is a companion to the 54-unit East Liberty Place North that opened almost fully leased three years ago.
